About Retirement Calculators
RetirementCalculators.uk exists to help you make clearer, more confident decisions about money, work and retirement. The tools here are built from real questions about how to live better, not just how to hit a number.
How it all started
In 2018, I discovered Mr Money Moustache, the financial independence blogger who made me rethink work, money and how we spend our time. For the first time, I saw that you do not have to follow the standard script of working full-time until your late 60s and only then enjoying real freedom.
I became obsessed with investing and the idea that you can design a life where you choose how you work. I started asking questions like:
- What if I did not have to work full-time forever?
- What if I could switch to part-time and still be on track?
- What if my money could give me options much earlier than I thought?
In 2021, I sold an online educational business I had built and suddenly had real capital to invest. I knew the basics and I knew where the money should go. What I did not have were clear, UK specific tools to show how things might look ten or twenty years into the future.
Most calculators were based in the US. Many UK tools were either too basic, too vague or tried to squeeze retirement into a single simple graph. None of them properly connected ISAs, pensions, cash, buy to let and lifestyle choices in one place.
So I started building the tools I wished I had at that exact moment. RetirementCalculators.uk is the result of that work.
Life behind the numbers
Behind every chart and table, there is a real family making real choices. My own decisions about work, investing and semi-retirement are shaped by days out with the kids, bike rides, muddy walks and planning the next adventure. This project is as much about designing a good life as it is about growing a spreadsheet.

What RetirementCalculators.uk is building
Retirement is not one sized fits all. Some people want to stop work early, others want to reduce hours, some want to travel and some prefer a quieter, local life. The common need is clarity. You need to know whether the path you are on makes sense.
The tools on this site are designed to give you that clarity. They model the flow of your money over time, connecting the different parts of a modern UK retirement:
- ISAs, pensions, cash and general investment accounts
- Buy to let income and property decisions
- Early retirement, semi retirement and part time work
- Living costs, lifestyle choices and longevity risk
Many of the calculators use a step based layout that lets you build a full picture of your situation piece by piece. You can then see how your choices ripple across the years instead of just looking at a single headline number.
How to use these tools
Think of these calculators as financial flight simulators. You can test different routes, tweak assumptions and see how the journey changes. They are ideal for questions like:
- What happens if I stop full time work at 55 instead of 60?
- Could a couple of years of part time work bridge the gap to my pension?
- How do my ISAs and pensions work together over time?
- What difference does investment growth, fees or sequence of returns make?
The goal is not to predict the future. Markets, governments and personal circumstances all change. The goal is to give you a clear, visual way to compare choices and understand the range of outcomes you might face.
Guidance, not guarantees
The tools on RetirementCalculators.uk are detailed models, but they will always contain some level of inaccuracy. No calculator can truly know how markets will behave, what inflation will do or how your life plans might shift over time. There are simply too many moving parts.
These calculators are built for guidance and education. They can help you:
- Understand your direction of travel
- Spot gaps or risks in your current plan
- See how different decisions might play out
- Have better quality conversations about money, work and time
They are not financial advice and they are not a guarantee of any specific outcome. Before making major financial decisions you should consider talking to a qualified financial adviser who can look at your full situation.
A personal note
When I sold my business in 2021 these are exactly the tools I wished I had. Models that were UK focused, transparent and flexible enough to explore all the paths between full time work and full retirement.
My hope is that these calculators help you feel calmer, better informed and more in control of the trade offs between money and time. If they help even a small number of people design a life with more freedom, choice and intention, then this project has done its job.
If you have ideas, feedback or want to suggest a new calculator, I would love to hear from you.
