This policy explains how RetirementCalculators.uk (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use our website at https://retirementcalculators.uk.

Who we are

RetirementCalculators.uk publishes educational calculators and articles about retirement and personal finance. For questions about this policy or your personal data, contact us at privacy@retirementcalculators.uk.

What this site is (and is not)

Our content is for education and general information only. It is not regulated financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it is not a personal recommendation. Nothing on this site replaces advice tailored to your situation.

Information we collect

Information you send us

When you use our contact form or email us, we collect what you provide (for example your name, email address, subject, and message). We use this to respond to your enquiry, to fix bugs or improve calculators where you report an issue, and to consider suggestions you make.

Technical information when you browse

Like most websites, our hosting environment and software may process technical data such as your IP address, browser type, approximate location derived from IP (usually at region or country level), pages viewed, referring page, and date/time of requests. We use this for security, reliability, and to understand aggregate use of the site.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage (including localStorage in your browser) where needed to:

operate the site and remember basic preferences (for example whether you have acknowledged a cookie notice or dismissed a small on-site prompt);
measure traffic and performance if we use analytics tools;
deliver or measure advertising if we use an ad network (for example Google AdSense).

Third-party tools may set their own cookies or use identifiers they already hold. Their processing is described in their privacy notices (see Third parties below).

Plan Hub accounts and payments

Plan Hub is our paid planning tool. If you create a Plan Hub account, we also collect and use the information below.

What we collect

Account details: your first name, email address and password. Passwords are stored in a scrambled form that we cannot read.
Your plan: the figures and details you enter, such as ages, pension and savings pots, spending and State Pension, plus any details you add for a partner if you plan together. This includes your named plans, scenarios and check-ins.
Profile photo: only if you choose to upload one.
Preferences: for example whether you want monthly check-in reminder emails.
Subscription details: your trial and subscription dates and status, and the reference numbers Stripe gives your customer record and subscription.

Card and wallet payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.

How we use it

To run your account, save your plan and show your illustrations and reports.
To manage your free trial and subscription, including a reminder email before your trial ends.
To send monthly check-in reminders, only if you switch them on in Settings. You can switch them off at any time.
Stripe sends payment receipts and renewal reminders on our behalf.

Emails about Plan Hub never include pension amounts or other figures from your plan.

We only look at an individual plan if you ask us for help or we need to investigate a fault.

Lawful bases for Plan Hub

Contract: running your account, your trial and your subscription.
Consent: monthly check-in reminders and an optional profile photo.
Legal obligation: keeping payment records for tax.

Who else handles it

Stripe processes payments and holds your card details. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
Our hosting provider stores the website database where your account and plan are saved.

Cookies in Plan Hub

Plan Hub uses a login cookie to keep you signed in, and stores a few settings in your browser, such as whether you have finished the welcome steps. Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout page to take payment and prevent fraud.

How long we keep it

Your account and plans stay until you remove them. If your subscription ends, we keep your plan so you can come back to it.
Remove Hub data in Settings deletes every named plan, scenario and check-in straight away. Your login stays so you can start again.
To close your account completely, including your login, email us at privacy@retirementcalculators.uk.
Payment and subscription records are kept for six years, as tax rules require.

Your copy of your data

Download my data in Settings gives you a copy of your plans, scenarios and check-ins as a JSON file, a standard format that other software can read. Your other rights are listed below.

Lawful bases (UK GDPR)

Depending on the activity, we rely on:

Legitimate interests — running and securing the website, understanding aggregated use, improving content and tools, and limited communication about our own services, where this is not overridden by your rights;
Contract — where we need your information to respond to a request you have made;
Consent — where the law requires consent for specific cookies or marketing technologies (for example where we ask you to accept optional cookies).

Third parties

We do not sell your personal data.

We may use service providers who process data on our behalf, for example:

Hosting and infrastructure;
Email or form delivery (where you submit a message through the site);
Analytics (if enabled) to understand how pages and calculators are used in aggregate;
Advertising partners such as Google (for example Google AdSense), which may use cookies or similar technologies to serve or measure ads, including personalised ads where allowed and where the correct consent framework applies.

How long we keep information

Contact messages: typically up to 24 months unless we need to retain them longer (for example to defend a legal claim or investigate serious misuse).
Server logs: for a period set by our host or configuration, often in the range of 30 to 90 days unless longer retention is required for security.
Cookies: each cookie has its own duration; you can clear cookies in your browser at any time.

International transfers

Some providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where we use providers in countries without an adequacy decision, we aim to rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law (for example the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or other approved mechanisms).

Your rights (UK)

Under UK data protection law you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you;
ask us to correct inaccurate data;
ask us to erase data in certain circumstances;
Restrict processing or object to certain processing;
in some cases, data portability;
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing;
lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Children

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us at privacy@retirementcalculators.uk and we will take appropriate steps.
